Company Story
Northland takes its name from two places at once: the Kansas City region the company calls home, and the founder's Scandinavian heritage. The runes in the Northland mark were chosen deliberately — they signify honor, justice, and strength, the standards the company holds itself to.
The company was founded on a simple observation: training must be built for the client's mission, not the instructor's convenience. Fixed programs are easy to teach and easy to sell, but they ignore what actually makes a team good at its job — its principal, its environment, its habits and gaps. Northland was built differently- to tailor a custom solution specific to your team
Mission & Approach
Meeting our training audience where they are
Professionals are predictable
Your teammates and principals need confidence in your response. High-stress repetition against likely outcomes is how that confidence gets built — on purpose, not by accident.
We teach you how to think, not what to think
A rolodex of SOPs causes delay when the situation is unfamiliar. We give operators guardrails instead of guidelines, and the why behind every solution, so they act with immediacy and intent.
Failure in training is a benefit
We use simple scenarios to expose complicated problems—pushing pace, decisions, and engagement until the gaps show. Failure in training gives us the opportunity to improve. We want those failures to happen in training, where we can diagnose and correct them, so they don’t happen in the field.
Culture means never having to recruit
Build a brand of trusted professionalism and uncompromising principles, and you don't have to convince anyone to join. The right people line up to prove they belong.
“I especially appreciated how you explained not only what should be done, but the “why”, while addressing the practical challenges that arise in an operational environment. That approach made the training directly applicable to our detail. I also greatly appreciate your commitment to remaining a resource as we develop and refine our SOPs.”
Dignitary Protection Mission
Robert S. Gunderson
Rob Gunderson spent 23 years with the FBI, most recently as Supervisory Special Agent in the Bureau's Protective Services Section, managing dignitary protection at the national and international level. He developed and still leads the FBI's Dignitary Protection Basic Course — the program that trains the Bureau's own protective agents, along with officers from law enforcement and military teams across the country.

Career
What It Taught
Rob has trained law enforcement, military units, and civilian groups across the United States and internationally — teams with vast differences in experience, budget, mission and capability. Northland will meet you where you are and take you where you want to be.
